About HungaryGames

Sharing Hungary's Board Gaming Culture With the World

Our Story

HungaryGames was created by a small team of board game enthusiasts based in Budapest who noticed that Hungary's remarkable tabletop culture was largely unknown to the outside world. While the Rubik's Cube is globally recognized, few visitors realize that Budapest is home to one of Europe's most vibrant board game cafe scenes, or that Hungary's chess tradition has produced more grandmasters per capita than nearly any other country.

We set out to bridge that gap. Every cafe review, game recommendation, and cultural article on this site comes from firsthand experience. We visit the venues, play the games, and speak with the people who make Hungary's gaming community what it is. No content on this site is paid for or sponsored by any business, publisher, or tourism board.

Our goal is practical: to help both visitors and locals discover the best of what Hungary offers in the world of board games, puzzles, and tabletop hobbies. Whether you are planning a trip to Budapest or simply curious about the culture, we hope our guides prove useful.
